Wendy's Wilder Adventure

After a quick discussion about job applications, a recent conversation with my Mum somehow resulted in her telling me to write a blog about why she hates 70's movies. So here we are folks, hold on tight.

Unlike my ridiculous Mother, I live most of my life watching 70s movies, The Rocky Horror Picture Show, Grease, you name it. While I understand her comments about the radical sexual undercurrents of most of the movies released in the decade of scandal and individuality, I cannot deny my love for the classic, overly dramatized approach to seemingly simple and regular shenanigans portrayed on screen. While dear old Wendy dwells on works like Far From the Madding Crowd and Fun With Dick and Jane, sweet little diddies like Animal House never fail to get me hyped. How backwards it seems that the woman born in the 60s prefers Twilight and 50 Shades in comparison to her 19 year old daughter and her love for A Clockwork Orange.

However, we both agreed that regardless of the 70s movies she can't stand due to the blatant sexism and dull comedic one liners, the tv shows around at that time were nothing less that brilliant. I can't speak for my Mum but I sure do love the overacting and horrendous laugh tracks used to amp up the comedy factor in the ridiculous story lines of Happy Days. Which is why I love other sitcoms set in the 70s that just poke fun at stereotypes of the decade.

So however much the woman who bore me prefers remakes with Carey Mulligan to original gems starring Julie Christie, I will forever hold in my heart Gene Wilder as the original owner of the world's favourite Chocolate Factory.
